Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to reunite with 31-year-old Tottenham mainstay Son Heung-min at Fenerbahce this summer.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Son Heung-min is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. Jose Mourinho has recently joined the Turkish club and wants to reunite with the Tottenham captain at the Ulker Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in the summer transfer window.
The Son Heung-min story
Son Heung-min has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015. The South Korean international spent most of his formative years at various schools in his homeland but graduated from the academy at Hamburger SV.
The 31-year-old rose in prominence during his spell in the Bundesliga but has seen his stock skyrocket in the last half a dozen years. While Son has not won a trophy with Tottenham, he has enjoyed a legendary stint with the North London club, even picking up the Premier League Golden Boot two years ago.
The experienced attacker became the Tottenham captain after Harry Kane left last summer and enjoyed an exceptional 2023/24 campaign. Son contributed to 27 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 17 times while providing ten assists. However, his future at the North London club is uncertain due to his contract situation.
Will Son leave Tottenham?
Son Heung-min will enter the final year of his Tottenham contract on July 1. So, it is hardly surprising that the North London giants want to tie the experienced attacker to a new deal in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Son’s contract situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of a few well-known clubs, including Fenerbahce.
Jose Mourinho has recently joined Fenerbahce, immediately becoming a fan favourite during his unveiling. However, the Portuguese tactician has an uphill task to topple Galatasaray from the summit of the Turkish Super Lig. So, he wants to bolster his squad with a few familiar faces, with Son emerging as a target.
However, despite Mourinho’s eagerness for a reunion, Son will unlikely leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window. Talks between the two parties have reportedly advanced, meaning Mourinho and Fenerbahce must look elsewhere for offensive reinforcement.
