Galatasaray eyeing Anthony Martial swoop

Turkish giants Galatasaray are interested in outgoing Manchester United forward Anthony Martial in the upcoming transfer window.

According to a report from ESPN, Galatasaray are interested in acquiring the services of Anthony Martial. While Manchester United have already confirmed his departure and he can join the Turkish giants for free, the French forward will have to lower his wage demands to make things happen.

Martial’s failed Manchester United move

Anthony Martial made a name for himself at AS Monaco before moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2015. They forked out a significant fee to sign him during his teenage days, and he was expected to be the next big thing.

However, things did not go according to plan for the Frenchman. While he did showcase glimpses of the talent he possesses, he never got going during his nine-year-long stay at the Manchester-based club. Injuries played a big part in Martial not reaching the expected heights.

During the 2023/24 season, Martial was on the pitch for just over 600 minutes across his 19 appearances. While he was not really the preferred choice under Erik ten Hag, the 28-year-old was not available for the majority of the season because of his injury nightmare. The French attacker has not played any competitive football since undergoing a groin surgery back in December.

While there was an option to extend his contract at Manchester United for another 12 months, they have decided against it. Martial’s departure has already been confirmed by the Red Devils and in less than a month, he will officially be a free agent.

Martial to join Galatasaray?

With the 28-year-old forward available for free, Galatasaray are one of the clubs who have expressed interest in his services. The Turkish giants want to further bolster their attack ahead of next season and they feel the versatile United forward could help their cause.

While they are keen on having him in their squad, Martial will have to lower his wage demands to make a move to Turkey. Galatasaray are not going to make a huge financial offer to have him at their disposal, the player will have to consider a significant pay cut if he wants to play for the Turkish champions.
