West Ham United looking at Ademola Lookman to improve attacking unit

West Ham United are keen on acquiring the services of Atalanta star Ademola Lookman to bolster their attack ahead of next season.

According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United want to bolster their attack on a priority basis heading into the summer transfer market and Ademola Lookman is one of the names on their shortlist. The Nigerian international’s impressive performances for Atalanta in the 2023/24 season have put him on the Hammers’ radar.

Lookman’s sensational rise at Atalanta

Lookman has been a part of the Italian club’s setup since 2022 after joining them from RB Leipzig. He has been an integral part of their first team since arriving at the club. He has featured in a total of 78 matches for Atalanta and has contributed towards 50 goals.

In the recently concluded season, the 26-year-old forward scored 17 goals and even contributed with 10 assists in his 45 appearances. The former Leipzig star played a big part in their incredible run in the Europa League where they ended up defeating unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

Lookman scored three on the night of the final to hand his team the title and his impressive performances in the European competition have attracted the attention of West Ham United. The Hammers didn’t live up to expectations last season and they are eager to bounce back.

West Ham interested in signing Lookman

Julen Lopetegui who is all set to lead the club into the new season is looking at ways to improve the squad. While the idea is to reinforce almost all major areas of the pitch, the Spanish manager wants more firepower in attack. He wants a new top-quality forward who can add goals to his ranks.

They have prepared a shortlist which is full of top-quality strikers. While Lookman is not really an out-and-out striker, his name is also on that list because of his incredible form and his ability to feature almost anywhere in attack.

His arrival will not only bolster their flanks, it will also give Lopetegui more options up top. More importantly, Lookman has played a lot of his football in England, so it won’t take him long to adjust. Given his importance to the Atalanta team and the fact that he still has two years left on his deal, signing him won’t be easy for the Hammers.
