Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old French international Ousmane Dembele from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Fichajes, Ousmane Dembele is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for an offensive reinforcement heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, incoming Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is a fan of the 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain attacker.
Ousmane Dembele and his career so far
Ousmane Dembele has failed to fulfil his tremendous potential in the last decade. The Frenchman rose in prominence during his spell with Stade Rennais, projecting a high ceiling in the early years of his professional career. He continued to look promising during a short stint with Borussia Dortmund, which compelled Barcelona to sign him in August 2017.
While Dembele was impressive in many phases of his spell with Barcelona, he failed to become the projected Neymar successor. And the 27-year-old ended his spell with the Blaugrana in acrimony after sealing a surprise move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
The French international blew hot and cold throughout his debut season with PSG but contributed to 20 goals in 42 outings for Les Parisiens. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner found the back of the net six times while providing 14 assists. Despite Dembele’s sub-par campaign with PSG, his stock remains high, with Chelsea keen on signing him this summer.
Premier League adventure on the horizon?
Chelsea’s eagerness to sign Ousmane Dembele is understandable. The Blues hold a long-standing interest in the French attacker, having previously attempted to secure his services when he was at FC Barcelona. Meanwhile, amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Raheem Sterling, the 27-year-old can be a long-term replacement for the Englishman.
In addition, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke are rough around the edges, meaning Dembele can be a top-notch addition to the first-team squad. However, it is unclear if PSG will entertain any offers for the World Cup winner in the summer transfer window.
Despite Ousmane Dembele’s inconsistencies, Luis Enrique rates him highly. So, Enzo Maresca might not succeed in bringing the former Barcelona winger to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window if Enrique has his way.
