Barcelona register interest in Bruno Fernandes

Barcelona will reportedly compete with Bayern Munich for 29-year-old Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes this summer.

According to a report by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Bruno Fernandes is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Manchester United captain is also a target for Bayern Munich heading into the summer transfer window. And the Bavarian giants have contacted the representatives of the 29-year-old playmaker over a possible move.

Bruno Fernandes and his journey so far

Bruno Fernandes has been a talismanic figure for Manchester United since arriving from Sporting CP in January 2020. A native of Mala, the Portuguese international needed a spell in Serie A to blossom into a productive playmaker. He went from strength to strength at Sporting CP before becoming one of the best players in the world at Manchester United.

The 29-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last four and a half years and became the club captain before the 2023/24 season began. Meanwhile, Fernandes was a shining light in a dreadful 2023/24 campaign for Manchester United, amassing 15 goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

However, the former Sporting CP captain faces an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. While the Red Devils do not want to entertain any offers for Fernandes, recent reports have linked him with a summer departure. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are his prospective suitors.

A man in demand

Barcelona’s interest in Bruno Fernandes is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a productive attacker heading into the summer transfer window and have expressed their interest in the Manchester United captain. However, a summer move for the 29-year-old will likely cost a bomb, throwing a spanner in the works for Barcelona.

As for Bayern Munich, they have already contacted Bruno Fernandes’s representatives. The Bavarian giants want to sign a top-class footballer to bolster their squad and return to the top of the Bundesliga next season. So, it is hardly surprising that the Manchester United talisman has emerged as a target for Bayern Munich.

Affording a move for the Portuguese international might be possible for Bayern Munich. But Barcelona will face a tall order to sign the 29-year-old from Manchester United in the summer transfer window unless they can balance their books.
