Joshua Kimmich can imagine himself playing for Real Madrid

Barcelona target and Bayern Munich utility man Joshua Kimmich can imagine playing for Real Madrid.

According to a report by German outlet BILD, Joshua Kimmich is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window. However, the 29-year-old Bayern Munich utility man can imagine playing for Real Madrid if he leaves the Bundesliga club in the summer transfer window.

Joshua Kimmich and his journey at Bayern Munich

Joshua Kimmich has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Bayern Munich from VfB Stuttgart in July 2015. A right-back in his initial days at the Allianz Arena, he transformed into a dominant midfielder after Philipp Lahm’s retirement. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world.

However, the German international has endured a frustrating 2023/24 campaign, with Thomas Tuchel deploying him as a right-back instead of his preferred position in the middle of the park. Nevertheless, Kimmich did his bit, chipping in with two goals and ten assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

However, Kimmich’s long-term future at Bayern Munich is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window. Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in signing the German international, while Premier League bigwigs have also shown interest in him. However, a move to La Liga will be on the cards if he leaves Bayern Munich.

Barcelona, Real Madrid vying for Kimmich

Barcelona’s interest in Joshua Kimmich is understandable. The Catalan giants want to sign a holding midfielder to fill the void left by the departure of Sergio Busquets last summer. So, the Bayern Munich utility man has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. However, the Blaugrana might be in a losing battle to secure his services.

The report claims Kimmich can imagine playing for Real Madrid if he leaves Bayern Munich. With Toni Kroos leaving Los Blancos this summer after announcing his impending retirement, a gaping hole might open up. So, the 29-year-old German international is an option worth considering for Real Madrid.

The latest update has boosted Real Madrid’s prospects of securing Joshua Kimmich’s services in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if a summer move to Real Madrid or Barcelona sees the light of day.
