Chelsea will reportedly compete with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain for 33-year-old Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Antoine Griezmann is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are in a three-way battle to sign the 33-year-old Atletico Madrid attacker, with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain also keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window.
Antoine Griezmann and his career so far
Antoine Griezmann has been one of the best players in the world for nearly a decade. A native of Macon, the Frenchman spent his formative years in Spain, graduating from the Real Sociedad youth division. He rose in prominence during his spell with La Real before joining Atletico Madrid.
Griezmann’s first spell with Atletico Madrid saw his stock skyrocketing as he came close to winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or. In addition, he tasted success with France, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, the 33-year-old embarked on a rollercoaster ride after that, with his stint with Barcelona not yielding the desired result.
However, Griezmann has rediscovered his best form since rejoining Atletico Madrid, initially on loan in August 2021 before completing a permanent transfer two years later. He has contributed to 32 goals in an incredible 2023/24 campaign, finding the back of the net 24 times while providing eight assists. However, Griezmann’s long-term future at Civitas Metropolitano is uncertain, with the situation alerting several clubs, including Chelsea.
London calling?
Chelsea’s interest in Antoine Griezmann is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a productive attacker who can take some burden off Cole Palmer’s shoulders. While they want to sign a prolific striker amid their links with Victor Osimhen, the Atletico Madrid talisman is also a viable target.
The World Cup winner can potentially form a fluid Chelsea attack alongside Cole Palmer and a new striker. However, the Blues are in a three-way battle for Griezmann’s signature and face stiff competition from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
So, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat the competition to Antoine Griezmann’s services in the summer transfer window. However, the French international is an appealing target despite his advancing years.
