Chelsea must make decisive sales and raise considerable funds before June 30, which puts Conor Gallagher’s future in significant doubt.
According to The Independent, Chelsea may have to sell Conor Gallagher and other homegrown stars to raise funds before June 30. The Blues are treading the fine line set by PSR, as failing to comply could have its ramifications for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Chelsea must sell Conor Gallagher before June 30
A few weeks ago, reports emerged on Chelsea’s need to raise significant profits as they are treading very close to the PSR obligations. The story further added that the club may have to bring in around £100 million in profits before June 30 or risk breaching the financial regulations set by the Premier League.
However, some weeks ago, reports stated that Chelsea had managed to sell two of their hotel properties at Stamford Bridge for close to £76 million, though the deal is still not approved by the Premier League. Hence, as things stand, they will have to continue working on their plans to sell some of their homegrown stars, most notably Conor Gallagher.
It’s also understood that Gallagher was one of the main reasons behind Mauricio Pochettino’s exit after the Argentine manager reportedly disagreed with the club’s plan to sell the midfielder. The England international has been a critical star this season, and ideally, no fan would want to see the back of him just yet.
Yet, Chelsea, who must manage their PSR obligations, must find a way to maximise the profits from some of their homegrown stars like Gallagher. Hence, there’s a big chance the midfielder will leave alongside some of his other colleagues like Ian Maatsen, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja during the summer.
Aston Villa Tottenham keen on Gallagher
For over a year now, Tottenham have been the top contender for Gallagher, although things might have changed a bit after they failed to finish in the top four. There are reports stating Spurs are keen on a double move for Gallagher and Chalobah, although it may seem unlikely given the history between the two clubs.
Aston Villa are also keen on Gallagher, and some might consider Unai Emery’s side as front runners due to Champions League qualification. They will be in the market for Gallagher, and should Chelsea decide to sell him before June 30, Villa and Spurs will look to take full advantage of the situation.
