Chelsea, Manchester City losing race to sign Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies has his heart set on joining Real Madrid, with Chelsea and Manchester City facing a losing battle for the 23-year-old Bayern Munich full-back.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in signing Alphonso Davies in the summer transfer window. However, neither Premier League club will land the 23-year-old Bayern Munich full-back, who has his heart set on joining Real Madrid.

Alphonso Davies and his Bayern Munich journey

Alphonso Davies has blossomed into a marauding full-back since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. A promising young winger when he arrived at the Allianz Arena, the Canadian international has transformed into a full-back, with his blistering pace helping him during the defensive phases.

The 23-year-old has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with 11 goals and 31 assists. However, Davies’s long-term future at the Bavarian club is uncertain as he will enter the final 12 months of his contract on July 1. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

A man in demand

Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea might provide the “biggest” threat to Real Madrid in the race to sign Davies. The West London club will likely part ways with Ian Maatsen this summer, while Marc Cucurella faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. So, the Bayern Munich full-back is a viable target for Chelsea.

As for Manchester City, Sergio Gomez has failed to impress Pep Guardiola. So, the ex-Barcelona manager has utilised Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake in the left-back spot. The Premier League champions thus need a new left-back, with Alphonso Davies emerging as a viable target.

However, the 23-year-old is keen on joining Real Madrid, meaning Chelsea and Manchester City face a losing battle for the Bayern Munich full-back. However, it is unclear if Los Blancos will launch the offensive to sign the Canadian international in the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have claimed that the Merengues have ruled out a summer move for the 23-year-old full-back. So, it will be interesting to see if Davies gets his desired move to Real Madrid in the coming weeks.
