Benjamin Sesko could be tempted by Arsenal move

Benjamin Sesko might be interested in joining Arsenal should the Premier League giants approach the RB Leipzig star.

Arsenal’s interest could definitely turn the head of Benjamin Sesko, as per Dean Jones on Give Me Sport. The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the RB Leipzig, valued at £55 million by the Bundesliga club, although there is a need to complete the deal quickly rather than engage in protracted negotiations.

Is Benjamin Sesko open to Arsenal move?

Arsenal are in a dilemma about signing a new striker. There is confusion about whether Mikel Arteta wants an established centre-forward or someone young and emerging in the ranks. There have been links to Alexander Isak and Ivan Toney, but also to young strikers like Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.

Sesko has had an exciting season at Leipzig since moving from Red Bull Salzburg. After playing a more secondary role and covering for Lois Openda, he emerged from the shadows to play an essential role in the second part of the season.

His 18-goal season has attracted a host of top Premier League sides as well as some Italian teams ahead of the summer. Sesko represents a solid group of young forwards ready to challenge for a place in the starting lineup. Still, he is not the finished article yet, meaning clubs like Arsenal may find some value in splashing on the £55 million-rated attacker.

He earlier had a lower release clause. But the performance-related clauses have increased it to around £55 million in recent weeks. Hence, should Leipzig sell him, they will want either the entire clause or a fee closer to it. Over on Give Me Sport, Dean Jones has insisted that Arsenal need to get the deal over the line quickly to erase complications, although he suggested Sesko’s turn should the Gunners show up.

Jones said, “My hunch is that Arsenal weren’t planning to do business as soon as the window opens in mid-June, but with Sesko that would be necessary. So this is something they have to decide right now. If Arsenal do put their foot down on this one then he’ll be tempted to go for it. They could definitely turn his head and he would be a great addition to that squad.”

Arsenal need to accelerate Sesko chase?

Arsenal are still determining if Sesko is the right profile to take them forward, although Arteta has been seemingly convinced by Kai Havertz in the No.9 role. Additionally, he has already ruled out a sale of Gabriel Jesus, meaning both the German and the Brazilian will remain at the club heading into next season. This is why they are open to bringing a younger striker to probably replace Eddie Nketiah.

However, the market for Sesko is growing, and while he may have his head turned by Arsenal’s Interest, other clubs could also have a chance. The likes of Chelsea and Tottenham are also in the race, although his agent has seemingly ruled out a move to Italy.
