Chelsea have reportedly submitted a contract proposal to Tosin Adarabioyo, hoping to beat the competition for the 26-year-old defender.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have submitted a contract offer to free agent Tosin Adarabioyo. The 26-year-old will leave Fulham as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract, as the Blues could offer him the chance to stay in London and are looking to beat competition from Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Chelsea make Tosin Adarabioyo move
Chelsea are trying to sign players that suit their project and have now stumbled upon the idea of signing Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham. Not only is the 26-year-old defender available on a free transfer. But should the Blues sign him, they could save a lot of money in their bid to replace the departing Thiago Silva.
Adarabioyo’s availability on a free transfer is all the more enticing for clubs in the Premier League eager to comply with PSR regulations. Chelsea are also close to matching those obligations and will see the benefit of signing a player with immense experience in the English top flight.
The Blues have made a late approach in the race for Adarabioyo, who might seem more like a player who might suit incoming boss Enzo Maresca’s ideas. The Italian has used a ball-playing centre-back at Leicester City and might be inclined to do so at Chelsea.
The prospect of joining Chelsea might appeal to the 26-year-old defender, as it would allow him to stay put in London and probably not even move his family. However, he might have held extensive talks with other clubs, most notably Newcastle United, as the Blues might have to fight hard to get the signing over the line.
Newcastle United front-runners for Adarabioyo
Newcastle United are eager to sign Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, both on free transfers, as they are mindful of their spending. The duo represents a big opportunity to strengthen their backline and cover for some of their key injured stars, and they might appear like the favourites for the latter.
Adarabioyo also attracts the interest of Manchester United, although the Magpies are the current favourites to land the 26-year-old target. As things stand, Newcastle have the upper hand. But Chelsea’s offer and vigorous pursuit might make the defender ponder and delay a decision about his next club once he leaves Fulham.
