West Ham United will have to fork out in excess of £30 million to sign Celtic sensation Matt O’Riley ahead of next season.
According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United are keen on reinforcing their midfield ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Matt O’Riley. The Danish international has been on fire this season and the Hammers are keen on having him in their squad.
It might not have worked out for O’Riley at Fulham but the move to MK Dons did help him get things back on track. He made the move to Celtic in the winter of 2022, the Scottish club acquired his services from MK Dons for just £1.5 million.
The 23-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since making the move. He has been a standout performer for them over the last two seasons. In the 2023/24 campaign, the central midfielder featured in 48 matches and has contributed towards 37 goals.
He has found the back of the net on 19 occasions and has also bagged 18 assists. His exceptional form and his abilities have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. West Ham United are one of the clubs interested in the Danish international’s services.
West Ham will have to pay £30 million for O’Riley
The Hammers want to reinforce their midfield and they feel the arrival of the 23-year-old could solve quite a few problems for them. Julen Lopetegui wants more depth and quality in the centre of the park and O’Riley is a top target for them.
Brendan Rodgers’s team are reluctant to sanction the departure of the Danish midfielder. With his contract running until the end of 2027, they are in full control of the situation. But, if a massive offer arrives, they could look to book a huge profit by selling him.
According to the report, Celtic value him at over £30 million and if there is an offer in that region, they won’t stand in the 23-year-old’s way. The Hammers are considering meeting the requirements of the Scottish club but with other top clubs keen on him, signing O’Riley won’t be easy.
