West Ham United keen on Matt O’Riley

West Ham United will have to battle it out with Atletico Madrid for the services of Celtic midfield star Matt O’Riley.

According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United are looking to reinforce their squad in the summer and they have their eyes set on Matt O’Riley. The Danish midfielder has been on fire in the ongoing season and there is no shortage of interest in his services.

O’Riley joined Celtic in the winter of 2022 for just £1.5 million and he hasn’t looked back since. The former Fulham star has been a standout performer for the Scottish club over the last two seasons. He has established himself as one of the mainstays and has done wonders for them this term.

He has played a big part in their league title-winning campaign this time out. In his 48 appearances across competitions, the versatile midfielder has managed to contribute towards 37 goals. He has found the back of the net on 19 occasions and also has 18 assists to his name.

Simeone keen on O’Riley’s signature

The 23-year-old’s sensational performances in the centre of the park have put him on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in world football. Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs keen on his signature. Diego Simeone’s team were interested in him during the winter.

The Madrid-based club did knock on Celtic’s door but their offer was turned down. However, they are expected to return in the summer as the Argentine manager feels he could be a great addition to reinforce the midfield. West Ham ready to battle Atletico for O’Riley

The Hammers could only manage a ninth-place finish this season. They are expected to push for a much higher finish next term and in order to make things happen they are looking for ways to strengthen their squad. People at the club feel O’Riley could be a sensational signing for them.

The Danish international has been a consistent performer and he will only get better with time. As a result, West Ham are willing to push for his signature. But, they are not going to find it easy with Simeone’s team also involved.

While he has been integral to Celtic’s success in recent years, the Scottish club will have no problems sanctioning his departure if a reported club does meet their demands. With his contract running until the summer of 2027, they will look to make a significant profit on his sale having signed him for less than £12 million.
