Ivan Toney is prepared to spend another seaosn at Brentford before leaving on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
According to 90 Min, Ivan Toney is considering staying at Brentford and moving on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. The England international did have plenty of suitors, but a huge asking price from the Bees and the player’s wage demands could see those suitors cool their interest in the 28-year-old.
Ivan Toney to leave Brentford next summer?
Ivan Toney became a huge talking point ahead of the January window when Arsenal saw plenty of links with a move for the 28-year-old. The striker did come back from his eight-month ban and helped Brentford to a reasonable finish on the table, with the Bees expecting the striker to leave in the summer.
Multiple suggestions have been made that Brentford will demand a significant fee to sell the 28-year-old striker with a year left on his deal. Moreover, there are suggestions that Toney might demand a significant wage to join one of the big suitors interested in his services, as those factors could scupper a move in the summer.
Hence, Toney might choose to show Brentford loyalty for their part in sticking with him despite his ban and staying on for another season. The ramifications of that decision would see the 28-year-old leave the club on a free transfer, thus depriving the fees of any transfer fees they had hoped to collect for the forward.
Are big teams still chasing Toney?
Arsenal have recently seen links to Benjamin Sesko, while Chelsea has turned its attention towards younger strikers like Viktor Gyokeres. Meanwhile, Manchester United have reservations about Toney, with his age and Brentford’s high valuation playing a massive role in these decisions from his main suitors.
Chelsea have certainly cooled their interest, while the Gunners are increasingly looking at other targets, meaning a move to either of those London sides looks unlikely for Toney. Manchester Untied also moved away from links to experiences strikers like Serhou Guirassy and, incidentally, Toney, as they are also looking for a younger striker to complement Rasmus Hojlund.
Hence, should Toney stick with his decision to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, he might see some of these clubs return to the table and offer him a deal.
