Aston Villa will reportedly compete with Manchester United for the signature of 29-year-old Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Adrien Rabiot is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old World Cup finalist is also a target for Manchester United amid uncertainties surrounding his future at Juventus.
Adrien Rabiot and his Juventus journey
Adrien Rabiot has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A for most of his stint with Juventus. The Frenchman joined the Bianconeri in a Bosman move in July 2019 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. He did not hit the ground running at the Allianz Stadium but has steadily grown in stature in the last half a decade.
The 29-year-old has also become a regular for his national side and played his part as France reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. Meanwhile, he has turned out over 200 times thus far for Juventus, chipping in with 22 goals and 15 assists. However, Rabiot faces an uncertain future at the Turin club heading into the summer transfer window, with his contract expiring on July 1.
Rabiot’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Aston Villa and Manchester United interested in securing the French midfielder’s services in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
New adventure beckons?
Aston Villa’s interest in Adrien Rabiot is understandable. The Villans are preparing for their first campaign in Europe’s premier club competition in a long time. So, they need to bolster their squad to get to the level of the tournament. Several midfielders, including Kristjan Asllani, have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Rabiot also being a viable target.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are eager to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Donny van de Beek. In addition, Manchester United will not complete a permanent move for Sofyan Amrabat. Rabiot is thus a long-term target for the Premier League heavyweights.
Aston Villa’s entry into the equation complicates matters for Manchester United as the Villans can offer Champions League football. Meanwhile, Juventus will be eager to keep hold of the French international. So, it will be interesting to see where the 29-year-old World Cup finalist plies his trade next season.
