Jadon Sancho needs to take paycut to complete Borussia Dortmund move

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho will reportedly have to take a paycut in order to complete his move to Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho appears to have rediscovered his best back at Borussia Dortmund. But the chances of him making the move permanent is far from a done deal.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are willing to take a hit on the small fortune they paid for the 24-year-old’s services in 2021. They are seeking at least £54.75 million to sell the English international in the summer transfer window.

Sancho never quite got going at Old Trafford, with only flashes of his brilliance coming to the fore for fans to appreciate. He also fell out with manager Erik ten Hag, necessitating the need to be shipped out.

While the youngster has not quite peaked at the Westfalenstadion, there has been an improvement in his desire and impact on the field. While United now depend on the FA Cup final to determine their hopes of European qualification, Sancho will be preparing for the UEFA Champions League final vs Real Madrid.

He looks happy in Germany and is open to returning to Dortmund on permanent basis. Even if Manchester United can reach an agreement regarding the transfer fee, the player’s £275,000-a-week wages remains a sticking point. As things stand, it is difficult to see Dortmund match it.

Having failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United players are set to suffer a 25% drop in their pay cheque. This effectively means that Sancho will be earning around £205,250 at Old Trafford in 2024/25.

A lot will depend on what Borussia Dortmund can offer and how much Sancho is willing to forego to ensure the deal goes through. Perhaps scoring in the final against Real Madrid will soften the German side’s resolve to get the deal done at all costs.

Sancho could yet have a future at Old Trafford. But this depends on maybe ten Hag parting ways with Manchester United. The Dutchman has softened his stance on the Englishman of late, but there is much bad blood there for it to be considered water under the bridge.
