Aston Villa told to pay €80 million to sign Pedro Goncalves

Aston Villa will have to break the bank and fork out €80 million to acquire the services of Sporting CP forward Pedro Goncalves.

According to a report from SportWitness, Aston Villa are interested in adding Pedro Goncalves to their ranks on the back of his impressive performances in the ongoing season. They are keen on reinforcing their squad ahead of next season as they prepare to compete in the Champions League for the first time. However, the player will cost a bomb, with Sporting CP demanding €80 million to sell him.

The Sporting CP forward is a top target for Unai Emery’s team. But it seems they will have to make a significant investment to sign him. The Portuguese outfit have no intentions of negotiating his departure, and the €80 million release clause in his current deal seems to be the only way out.

Goncalves has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2020. He has been a consistent performer for them over the years. But it seems Ruben Amorim has managed to bring the best out of him. Sporting have won the league title this season under the Portuguese manager’s guidance, and the 25-year-old has played a big part in their success.

The Portuguese international has featured in 48 matches this term and has contributed towards 34 goals. He has found the back of the net on 18 occasions and also has 16 assists to his name. His impressive performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs, and Aston Villa are one of them.

Aston Villa want to sign Goncalves

Aston Villa have done wonders under the guidance of Unai Emery as they have managed to secure Champions League football for next season. They are looking to go big in the transfer window once again, and Goncalves is a key target to bolster their attack.

While he prefers playing out wide on the flanks, the 25-year-old is capable enough to feature as number 10 as well as in a deeper role if needed. He will not only make them more threatening in attack, but it will also give Emery multiple options to work with.

However, signing him won’t be easy following Ruben Amorim’s decision to continue at the Portuguese club. He was linked with a move to England but it looks like he is all set to continue at Sporting. The report suggests that Amorim has informed Sporting president Frederico Varandas that he wants Goncalves in his squad at all costs.

With his contract running until 2027, the Portuguese club do not really have anything to worry about. He has an €80 million release clause in his contract, if Villa want him in their ranks they will have to activate the clause.
