West Ham United retain interest in Steven Bergwijn

West Ham United have kept their interest in the services of former Tottenham Hotspur star Steven Bergwijn intact.

According to a report from Soccernews, West Ham United are looking to reinforce their attack ahead of next season, and they have their eye set on Ajax skipper Steven Bergwijn. The Hammers have a long-standing interest in the winger’s services, and they are looking to make a move in the summer.

Bergwijn came up the ranks at PSV Eindhoven and made quite a name for himself on his way up. On the back of his impressive performances for the first team of the Dutch club, Tottenham acquired his services in the winter of 2020.

While he did showcase glimpses of the talent he possesses, he could not establish himself in their first team as a regular and ended up making a return to the Netherlands in the summer of 2022. He has revived himself since making the move to Dutch giants Ajax.

His consistent performances have resulted in a lot of interest and Ajax could look to cash in on him in the summer as he represents great value in the market. Bergwijn’s contract with the Dutch club runs until the summer of 2027. But he is looking for a move to a bigger club in the summer. The representatives of the player have informed the club about his desire.

West Ham reignite interest in Steven Bergwijn

With the player looking for a move away from Ajax in search of a better sporting project, West Ham are all set to reignite their interest in him. The Hammers have been linked with him over the past few windows, and they could knock on the Dutch club for his signature.

The English club have not been at their best this season, and they are looking to make the necessary changes in order to bounce next season. The Hammers feel the need to reinforce their attack and believe the former Tottenham star could help their cause.

They do not have much depth on the flanks and the Dutch international’s arrival could be a big boost. The report suggests that a potential transfer could cost almost €25 million which might not be a problem for West Ham. But, they might have to compete with other suitors.
