Liverpool considering Anthony Gordon swoop

Liverpool are interested in having Newcastle United attacking sensation Anthony Gordon in their squad ahead of next season.

According to a report by the Daily Star, Liverpool are looking to reinforce their attack in the summer, and they have their eyes on Anthony Gordon. The former Everton winger has done wonders in the ongoing season, and his impressive performances have put him on the wishlist of the Reds.

The Merseyside club are all set to part ways with Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, with Arne Slot all set to take over from the German manager. The club have started to plan for their first transfer window post the Klopp era, and they are looking to make significant moves in order to give Slot the kind of team he needs to maintain the levels reached in recent years.

Gordon’s time at Newcastle United

Anthony Gordon is a name that is quite high on Liverpool’s shortlist following his exceptional performances in the ongoing campaign. The Englishman, who came up the ranks at Everton, joined Newcastle United in the winter of 2023.

The Magpies forked out £45 million to sign the young English winger, and he has since gone from strength to strength. The youngster has established himself as a mainstay in the team under Eddie Howe and is expected to be a part of the England squad for the Euros.

In his very first full season with the club, Gordon has been involved in 47 matches and he has contributed towards 22 goals. The 23-year-old winger has found the back of the net on 11 occasions and also has 11 assists to his name.

Gordon’s incredible performances throughout have made him a top target for the Reds as they look to reinforce their attack. The Merseyside club are looking for more firepower up top, and they feel Gordon could be a great acquisition for the short as well as the long run.

While the Magpies have no intention to negotiate his departure, the Reds are willing to try their luck. Newcastle United are expected to offload one or possibly two of their leading star players in the summer to avoid breaching the Financial Fair Play rules.

A few of their players have been linked with a move elsewhere, and with Liverpool now keen on having Gordon in their squad, it will be interesting to who ends up leaving Eddie Howe’s team in the summer.
