Liverpool will demand €85 million to sell Darwin Nunez

Liverpool will demand around €85 million to part ways with Darwin Nunez amid his links with La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.

According to a report by Nicolas Saavedra via Mas Que Pelotas, Darwin Nunez is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Liverpool attacker. Meanwhile, the Merseyside club will demand around €85 million to part ways with the Uruguayan international.

Darwin Nunez and his Liverpool rollercoaster ride

Darwin Nunez has done his bit since joining Liverpool from Benfica in July 2022 in a deal worth around €75 million. The 24-year-old encountered a few teething problems but has done well to establish himself as a pivotal figure for the Merseyside club in the last 12 months, particularly making progress this season.

While Nunez’s wastefulness in front of the goal is an issue, he has still contributed to 31 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 18 times while providing 13 assists. However, the Uruguayan international faces an uncertain future at Anfield heading into the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have linked the Liverpool striker with several high-profile clubs, particularly from  La Liga. A move to Barcelona might be on the cards for the former Benfica talisman, with the Blaugrana eyeing him as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Meanwhile, Liverpool will demand around €85 million to part ways with him.

Barcelona move beckons?

Barcelona’s interest in Darwin Nunez is understandable. Robert Lewandowski is approaching the twilight of his career if he is not already there. In addition, the 2023/24 season has shown that age is catching up with the veteran Polish striker. So, it behoves Barcelona to lay down a succession plan for Lewandowski.

Nunez has thus emerged as a viable target, with the Liverpool striker dreaming about joining the Catalan outfit. However, the Uruguayan international will not come cheap, with the Reds slapping a price of €85 million on him, looking to make a profit on their investment.

Coughing up €85 million will be a tall order for Barcelona even if multiple high-value assets leave in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can raise the funds to secure the services of the Liverpool striker.
