Chelsea keen on signing Emiliano Martinez

Chelsea are interested in acquiring the services of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez ahead of next season.

According to a report by TBR, Chelsea are expected to push for a new shot-stopper in the summer despite having made significant investments to reinforce their position last summer. The London club are interested in having World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez in their squad.

Martinez has gone from strength to strength since leaving Arsenal. He has established himself as one of the mainstays at Aston Villa and has done wonders for Argentina on the world stage.

Villa have come a long way under the guidance of Unai Emery and Martinez has been one the most important players for the Spanish club. While his contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2027 and he is an integral part of Emery’s plans, Villa could still look to cash in on him in the upcoming transfer window.

Aston Villa could sell Emiliano Martinez

Emery’s team have spent significant funds in the transfer window over the past few windows, they do have the best financial situation and may need to offload important players to balance their books and comply with the Premier League’s Sustainability Rules.

Irrespective of the importance of the 31-year-old in their team, Villa could still sanction his departure to raise funds. Chelsea are aware of their situation and are looking to make the best out of it.

Chelsea reignite interest in Martinez

The Blues want to make Martinez their new number-one starting next season. He was one of their targets last summer before they ended up signing Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. The duo have failed to make the number one position their own.

People are not convinced about either of them being their number one going forward, as a result, they have rekindled their interest in the Argentine international and want to land him at the club this summer.

With Aston Villa all set to feature in next season’s Champions League, Chelsea will have to put forward a significant contract offer to lure Martinez to the club as they won’t be involved in Europe’s biggest competition. The 31-year-old only has two appearances in the UCL and convincing him to leave the club at this stage will be a huge task.
