Hakim Ziyech will continue at Galatasaray beyond the summer as the obligation to buy in his loan deal has been triggered.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Hakim Ziyech who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Chelsea will permanently join the Turkish giants in the summer. There was an obligation to buy in his loan move which has been triggered.
Ziyech’s time at Chelsea & the move to Galatasaray
Ziyech made a name for himself while playing at Ajax. He attracted a lot of interest back in 2020 when Chelsea forked out €40 million to sign him from the Dutch club. While he was an important part of their first team in the initial years, he slowly went down the pecking order.
During the 2022/23 season, the Morrocan international was involved in 24 matches but he was on the pitch for less than 1,000 minutes. The 31-year-old was not happy with his game time and he wanted a way out.
Galatasaray came to his rescue in the summer of 2023 as they managed to strike a deal for his services. The Turkish giants ended up acquiring his services on a season-long loan. It was not a straightforward loan deal, there was a buy obligation in it which depended on certain conditions.
Buy obligation in Ziyech’s contract triggered
Ziyech has featured in 21 games for the Turkish club so far this season. In his just over 1,100 minutes of first-team football, the former Ajax winger has found the back of the net on eight occasions and he also has four assists to his name.
During the course of the season, the buy obligation in his deal has been triggered and the 31-year-old will permanently join Galatasaray in the summer. He will not be returning to Chelsea as per Romano. The clause has been signed and the Blues have already sent a letter to the Turkish club to confirm the agreement.
The deal means Chelsea have managed to offload one of the players who is no longer a part of their plans while Galatasaray have managed to secure the services of a world-class player who has had some impact since joining them last summer.
