Dani Olmo dreaming of Barcelona return, summer move unlikely

RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo reportedly dreams of rejoining Barcelona amid his links with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and other Premier League ‘Big Six’ are also keen on signing the RB Leipzig playmaker in the summer transfer window. However, the Spanish international is dreaming about returning to his former club.

Dani Olmo and his RB Leipzig journey so far

Dani Olmo has been a pivotal figure for RB Leipzig since arriving from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2020. While he has endured a few fitness issues in the last four years, the Spaniard has delivered the goods whenever he has been fit and available. In addition, he has been a mainstay in the final third for his national side.

The 26-year-old has had a decent 2023/24 campaign thus far, chipping in with eight goals and five assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. However, Olmo’s long-term future at RB Leipzig is uncertain amid his links with high-profile clubs like Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. In addition, his release clause of €60 million takes the decision on his sale out of the Bundesliga club’s hands.

A man in demand

Barcelona attempted to re-sign Olmo in previous transfer windows. However, a move has never materialised due to complications arising from the Catalan outfit’s financial woes. Meanwhile, the Spanish international dreams of returning to Barcelona when he leaves RB Leipzig. However, the Blaugrana will unlikely have the funds to pay €60 million to secure his services despite the long-standing interest.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s interest in Dani Olmo is understandable. The Spanish playmaker’s versatility means he can either be an alternative to Bukayo Saka or reprise a central role alongside Martin Odegaard. As for Chelsea, they are reported ready to cough up €60 million to secure Olmo’s services.

However, Chelsea should focus on signing a prolific striker instead of pursuing a player similar to Cole Palmer. Meanwhile, Manchester United can find the long-sought right-wing solution by securing Dani Olmo’s services. So, their interest in the Spaniard makes sense.

Unlike Barcelona, the Premier League bigwigs have the funds to pay €60 million to secure Dani Olmo’s services. However, the 26-year-old attacker’s desire to return to Barcelona might put a spanner in the works unless rejoining the Blaugrana becomes a non-option.
