Newcastle United are interested in signing a right winger and have shortlisted Nico Williams among their key names for the position.
According to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle United has set their sights on Nico Williams ahead of the summer, as they are keen to sign a right winger. The Magpies have other names on their list, including Pedro Neto and Michael Olise, as they could also face tremendous competition for Williams.
Newcastle United keen on Nico Williams
Newcastle United are about to embark on a tricky summer window with the questions surrounding their PSR obligations and actual spending power. The club may have one of the wealthiest owners around. But they may only be able to spend up to a specific limit, which big sales could boost.
The Magpies do have many requirements to fulfil with their squad, with the club also keen on a new right winger. They have now added Nico Williams to that list, although they face massive competition for the 21-year-old Spaniard, who has contributed to an impressive 23 goals this season, with Barcelona also pushing for a move.
Unai Emery wants him in the summer after failing to secure his services in January when Williams signed a new contract that was essentially designed to protect Athletic Club’s valuation. Hence, there is an excellent opportunity for many clubs, including even Newcastle United. But things could get further complicated should the player desire Champions League football.
That may benefit a team like Aston Villa. Still, they could further face disappointments should a team like Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool make their advances for the 21-year-old Spaniard, with all those sides big admirers of the winger’s talents and are keeping close tabs.
Newcastle United also eyeing Pedro Neto and Michael Olise
Newcastle are in the race for Michael Olise, while they are also keen on Pedro Neto. Both of these players are eager for a more significant challenge and could target exits from their respective sides. However, in the case of the Crystal Palace star, he wants Champions League football, while there are some big Premier League sides chasing the Frenchman’s signature.
In Neto’s case, the many interested clubs, including Newcastle United, are concerned by his injury issues from the current season that could scupper any move. Either way, the Magpies are likely to target these three players and will hope one of them joins them in the close season.
