Darwin Nunez unlikely to join Barcelona

Darwin Nunez is unlikely to make the switch to Barcelona after a recent report linked the Uruguayan with a move away from Liverpool.

According to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, Darwin Nunez may have yet to make his move to Barcelona despite the heavy links with the striker in recent times. The 24-year-old Liverpool star is reportedly happy where he is and might play a significant role under new boss Arne Slot.

No Darwin Nunez move to Barcelona

Darwin Nunez has had a tough season despite him scoring 23 goals across all competitions. He did not make an impact from the bench in Sunday’s clash against Tottenham, although now Liverpool has extremely thin hopes of making it back into the title race.

In recent weeks, the striker has received plenty of criticism following some glaring misses in front of the goal. In fact, the 24-year-old Liverpool star has missed the most chances in Europe’s top five European leagues this season, as many feel the criticisms against him are valid to a certain degree.

Those criticisms had given rise to plenty of speculation regarding his future ahead of the summer, especially as Liverpool has a change of guard in the dugout. The report talks about Tottenham’s interest in Barcelona star Raphinha and insists that Nunez will not be moving to Camp Nou in the summer.

Barcelona were linked with a move, with suggestions that they are willing to part ways with high-turner Robert Lewandowski and want to replace the Pole with Nunez. However, the report states the move may not =happen as there are a lot of factors, including the 24-year-old Liverpool star’s will to stay put at Anfield alongside the Catalans and their financial struggles.

Nunez will become a big part of Arne Slot’s plans

Arne Slot will take over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer and become Liverpool’s new manager. There had been rumours that the Dutchman might bring his prolific Feyenoord frontman Santiago Gimenez along with him. However, with Nunez already present here, the move may not materialise after all.

Hence, the chances of Nunez leaving Liverpool for Barcelona are slim to none, especially given that there are doubts about whether the Spanish giants can actually afford him given their ongoing financial troubles. So there’s a big chance the 24-year-old Liverpool star will play a big part under Slot ahead of the upcoming new season.
