Chelsea will reportedly look to sign former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny from Juventus in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Wojciech Szczesny is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Juventus will be open to parting ways with the former Arsenal shot-stopper if a suitor coughs up €10 million.
Wojciech Szczesny and his impact in Serie A
Wojciech Szczesny has been one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A for nearly a decade. A native of Warszawa, the 34-year-old spent most of his formative years in his homeland before completing his football education at Arsenal. He was once one of the finest shot-stoppers in the Premier League but has been in Serie A since 2015.
Szczesny’s first stint in Italy came with AS Roma, spending two years on loan with the Giallorossi. However, his stock has skyrocketed since joining Juventus from Arsenal in July 2017. The Pole has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Bianconeri in the last seven years, racking up nearly 250 appearances while keeping 103 clean sheets.
However, Szczesny faces an uncertain future at Juventus, as he has a little over 12 months left on his contract. The Serie A giants want a young goalkeeper and are ready to part ways with the Polish international in the summer transfer window for €10 million. Such a situation has alerted Chelsea.
London return on the cards?
Chelsea’s interest in Wojciech Szczesny is somewhat surprising. While the former Arsenal shot-stopper has been an excellent performer for Juventus, he is well into his thirties and approaching the twilight of his career. Nevertheless, the 34-year-old has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time.
However, Chelsea should focus on signing a younger goalkeeper who can serve them for several years. So, it is hardly surprising that Aaron Ramsdale is a top target for the West London club. Recent reports have claimed that the Blues are the front-runners to land the disgruntled Arsenal shot-stopper.
Meanwhile, Szczesny will not cost a bomb in the summer transfer window, with Juventus ready to part ways with him for a fee of €10 million. It will be interesting to see if the 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper joins Chelsea in the coming months.
