Arsenal, Newcastle United front-runners to sign Amadou Onana

Arsenal and Newcastle United are leading the race for the signature of 22-year-old Everton midfield sensation Amadou Onana.

According to a report from Football Transfers, Arsenal and Newcastle United are both keen on having Amadou Onana in their squad ahead of next season. While there is a lot of interest in the 22-year-old’s services, the Gunners and the Magpies are currently front-runners for his signature.

Amadou Onana’s rise at Everton

On the back of an impressive season at LOSC Lille, Everton forked out £32 million to sign Onana in the summer of 2022. The defensive midfielder has gone from strength to strength since making the move to the Merseyside club. He has featured in 69 matches for them and has even contributed towards seven goals.

Onana’s consistent performances for club and country have attracted a lot of attention. The player looks all set to part ways with Everton in the summer. While multiple top clubs from across Europe are interested in signing him, Arsenal and Newcastle United are the ones in the driving seat according to the report.

Arsenal and Newcastle United leading the race

The Gunners are looking for more depth in the centre of the park. While they are planning to extend Jorginho’s stay at the club, the future of Thomas Partey is still uncertain. Mikel Arteta wants someone who can form a dependable partnership with Declan Rice in midfield, and he feels Onana could do wonders for them.

Newcastle United have failed to reach the heights they did last time out, and a lack of depth in their squad has been the major concern for them. Injuries to key players have caused problems. As a result, Eddie Howe is looking at ways to reinforce his squad, and signing a new top-quality midfielder is a priority for him.

Onana is a proven Premier League star, and he is only 22 which is why both clubs are keen on his signature. Newcastle United have been monitoring him for a while and are now gearing up to make a move for him in the summer.

Both the clubs are currently the front-runners to sign him as they have already laid down the foundation for a potential signing. The Magpies could have an advantage as they have recently done business with Everton, having signed Antony Gordon in the winter of 2023.
