Arsenal anticipate full agreement with Gabriel Magalhaes over new deal

Arsenal are expecting key defender Gabriel Magalhaes to agree on a new deal in the close season and continue his journey with the club.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are anticipating Gabriel Magalhaes reaching a full agreement over a new deal and continuing his journey with the club. The defender mainstay has been immense for Mikel Arteta’s project, and the Gunners are keen to reward him for his exceptional performances, particularly this season.

Arsenal expect Gabriel Magalhaes agreement

Gabriel Magalhaes was one of the first permanent signings of the Mikel Arteta era if you include Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari. In changing the rearguard, the Brazilian has been the foundation of the manager’s defensive style and has been a superb signing from all angles, having arrived in a £27 million deal.

The player has become one of the best central defenders in the Premier League, possibly even the world, since moving to Arsenal. The club and Arteta are keen to continue this association, having opened talks about a new contract for the Brazilian. They are now expecting the defender to reach an agreement.

Gabriel signed a new contract back in October of 2022 and was one of the first from the current squad to pen an extension. His current terms will take his stay at Arsenal until 2027. But the club are in a rush to keep him for the longer term future with a new long-term contract.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer a bumper new contract that will bring a massive pay rise in recognition of his rising stature. Gabriel, since signing the previous contract, has become an indispendable player for Arteta and has established himself as a starter on the Brazilian national side.

Arsenal are wary of interest in Gabriel

Last summer, Arteta surprised many of the Arsenal fans by dropping Gabriel for the first three games of the season. He brought the Brazilian as a substitute and reinstated him into the starting lineup only for the fourth game of the campaign, which came at home against Manchester United.

Back then, rumours circulating pointed towards interest from Saudi Arabia, as their offer of a lucrative contract might have turned his head. There were other rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in replacing the injured Eder Militao. Still, Gabriel stayed put and might end the speculation once and for all by signing the new deal that Arsenal has reportedly opened talks about.
