Crystal Palace will reportedly compete with AC Milan in the race to sign 24-year-old Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Maxence Lacroix is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 24-year-old VfL Wolfsburg defender.
Who is Maxence Lacroix?
Maxence Lacroix has been a solid performer for VfL Wolfsburg since joining the Bundesliga club from FC Sochaux in August 2020. A native of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, the Frenchman spent his formative years with five clubs, graduating from the FC Sochaux youth division several years ago.
The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the last four years, with his exploits bringing him close to his bow for the French national side. Lacroix has turned out 126 times thus far for VfL Wolfsburg, chipping in with seven goals and two assists. However, his long-term future at the Bundesliga club is uncertain.
The French centre-back will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer transfer window. So, he might be available in a cut-price deal in the coming months. Such a situation has captured the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, with Crystal Palace among his prospective suitors.
London calling?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Maxence Lacroix is understandable. The Eagles are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Marc Guehi amid the English international’s links with several high-profile Premier League clubs. So, it behoves Crystal Palace to invest in a centre-back in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, several candidates, including Koki Macheda, have emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Lacroix also a viable target. However, the South London club will face stiff competition from AC Milan for the 24-year-old VfL Wolfsburg defender heading into the summer transfer window.
The opportunity to join AC Milan might be more attractive to Lacroix instead of turning out for a lower mid-table Premier League outfit like Crystal Palace. However, it will be interesting to see if the Eagles can turn the Frenchman’s head if he leaves the Bundesliga club in the summer transfer window.
