Newcastle United are plotting a summer move for Wilfried Ndidi.

The Leicester City midfielder will be a free agent in the summer and a report from Teamtalk claims that Newcastle will compete with Aston Villa and Fulham for the Nigerian.

The 27-year-old has been a key player for Leicester and they will be disappointed to lose him on a free transfer. They are powerless to stop him from leaving and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle can get the deal done.

The 27-year-old will add physicality and defensive cover to their midfield. He will help them tighten up defensively and he will also provide cover for players like Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle currently have just one specialist defensive midfielder at the club and they need more depth in that position. The 27-year-old Nigerian international has played in the Premier League before and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.

Ndidi could be tempted to join Newcastle and Aston Villa

Newcastle have an ambitious project and the resources to sign quality players. The Leicester City midfielder will certainly be tempted to join them and be a part of their project in the long term.

Similarly, Aston Villa will be an attractive destination for him as well. They are currently chasing Champions League qualification and they have a quality manager like Unai Emery in charge.

Meanwhile, Fulham are looking to bring in midfield reinforcements as well. Joao Palhinha has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months and they will have to replace the Portuguese international adequately if he moves on in the summer. The 27-year-old African midfielder could be the ideal acquisition.

Signing him on a free transfer would prove to be a major bargain and it remains to be seen where he ends up eventually.

He has shown his quality in the championship with the Foxes this season, and he will look to take the next step in his career and join the club capable of pushing for trophies. Newcastle and Aston Villa have the ambition to compete for domestic trophies in the coming season seasons, and the Nigerian international will certainly be tempted to join them.
