Real Madrid stepping up interest in Malick Thiaw

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly ramping up their efforts to sign 22-year-old German international Malick Thiaw in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by German outlet BILD, Malick Thiaw is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they are stepping up their interest in the 22-year-old AC Milan defender.

Malick Thiaw and his club footballing journey

Malick Thiaw has come leaps and bounds since joining AC Milan from FC Schalke 04 in August 2022. A native of Dusseldorf, he passed through the academies at five German clubs while graduating from the Schalke youth division. Meanwhile, the Rossoneri shelled out only €8.8 million to land the German international.

However, such has been Thiaw’s progress at San Siro that his market value has zoomed from €6 million to €30 million. Meanwhile, the youngster has turned out 50 times thus far for AC Milan, chipping in with one assist. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Reports last year also linked the former Schalke defender with West Ham United. However, a move to Real Madrid might be on the cards, with Los Blancos keen on signing the German centre-back in the summer transfer window.

La Liga move on the horizon?

Real Madrid’s interest in Malick Thiaw is understandable. The Merengues are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. While Carlo Ancelotti has several world-class defenders in his squad, he can do with one more option ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Recent reports have claimed that Nacho’s long and illustrious stint with Real Madrid will end in the summer transfer window. The veteran Spanish defender’s departure will leave Ancelotti with three centre-backs. So, with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger on the wrong side of 30, Thiaw can be a top-notch addition to the squad.

The latest report suggests the Merengues have stepped up their efforts to secure Thiaw’s services in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old German international joins Real Madrid in the coming months.
