Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to push for the services of Barcelona and Real Madrid midfield target Bernardo Silva.
According to a report by Fichajes, Mikel Arteta is keen on having Bernardo Silva in his squad starting next season. The 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club, and there is interest in his services from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. But, the Gunners are willing to battle it out with the Spanish giants to sign the Portuguese international.
Bernardo Silva’s time at Manchester City
Silva joined Manchester City in the summer of 2017 after making a name for himself at AS Monaco. He has taken huge strides since joining the English giants. The 29-year-old has been integral to their success over the years, and he has established himself as one of the best players in the world.
The Portuguese international is capable enough to feature on the flanks, as an attacking midfielder and even as a central midfielder. He has had huge success in different roles under Guardiola. Silva’s versatility is what makes him such an important player under the Spanish manager.
While Manchester City managed to keep hold of their star last summer by offering him a new deal, once again reports suggest that he wants to part ways with the club in the summer. The 29-year-old wants to try out a new challenge elsewhere. And, this time around City cannot stand in his way even if they want to because his new deal has a bargain release clause of £50 million.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal to battle for Silva
Barcelona are one of the clubs interested in Bernardo Silva and as per reports, the player has a long-standing desire to feature for them. While his arrival will surely bolster the Spanish club’s squad, a potential transfer will depend on the Catalan giants’ financial situation.
Real Madrid are also interested in the 29-year-old. The release clause will not be a problem for the team in white and with Luka Modric expected to part ways with the club at the end of the season, Silva could come in as an ideal replacement.
But, the Gunners are ready to battle it out with Barcelona and Real Madrid. Mikel Arteta is keen on further reinforcing his squad, and he feels a player like Silva could be a huge boost for his squad. The Arsenal manager will give him more options in attack as well as in the midfield.
It is not a secret that Arteta’s style of play is inspired by Pep Guardiola. He has not only adopted tactics from his mentor but has also been keen on signing City players. He has already signed Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from City and are now looking to sign Silva. While all three clubs are keen on his signatures, it will be interesting to see what plans Silva has for his future.
