Arsenal and Liverpool have contacted the representatives of 28-year-old Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy, a target for Manchester United.
According to a report by L’Equipe, as relayed by Give Me Sport, Ferland Mendy is the subject of interest from Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool have established contact with the 28-year-old defender’s entourage amid uncertainties surrounding his future at Real Madrid.
Ferland Mendy and his Real Madrid journey
Ferland Mendy has been a solid performer since joining Real Madrid from Lyon in July 2019. While he has endured a few fitness-related issues, the Frenchman has made his mark during the defensive phases. However, his offensive output has not always been up to the mark in the last half a decade.
The 28-year-old has turned out over 150 times thus far for Real Madrid, chipping in with six goals and ten assists. However, Mendy’s long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu is uncertain amid Los Blancos’ links with Alphonso Davies. In addition, he has a little over a year remaining on his contract, which will expire in June 2025. Meanwhile, several high-profile clubs are interested in him, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
A man in demand
Arsenal might delve into the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window. Oleksandr Zinchenko’s stock has fallen this season, with Jakub Kiwior flourishing in the last few weeks. Mendy has thus emerged as a viable target for Arsenal, with the North London club touching base with his representatives.
As for Liverpool, Andrew Robertson is on the wrong side of 30, while Kostas Tsimikas is only good enough to be a backup option for the Merseyside club. Ferland Mendy is thus an option worth considering, with the Reds also establishing contact with his entourage.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Mendy is understandable. The left-back berth has been the Achilles Heel for the Red Devils this season, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggling with fitness issues. The Real Madrid full-back is thus a viable target for Manchester United.
With Arsenal and Liverpool contacting Mendy’s agents, a summer move might be on the cards, especially if Alphonso Davies arrives from Bayern Munich. It will be interesting to see if the 28-year-old leaves Real Madrid after half a decade this summer.
