Chelsea are bracing for bids for Levi Colwill in the summer as their financial situation could probably force them into selling the defender.
According to Give Me Sport, Chelsea are fully expecting critical bids for Levi Colwill to arrive in the summer. The Blues have financial obligations that could see them sell several of their critical stars, including the Englishman, a target for Liverpool.
Chelsea are expecting Levi Colwill bids
Chelsea are desperately hoping for a revival in form that could see them finish in European places, as their dire financial situation could worsen without it. While playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League would not help much, a Europa League berth would prove beneficial.
In any case, the Premier League’s PSR obligations could see them sell some of their notable players, including Levi Colwill. The young centre-back has been on the radar of many sides, and he signed a long-term £110,000-a-week deal last year to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
While Chelsea has maintained a firm stance about his importance to the team now and in the future, they are fully expecting critical bids to arrive for his signature. Liverpool are one of the clubs keen and will likely rekindle their pursuit of the left-sided defender in the summer.
Meanwhile, PSG are also keen on Colwill, which means Chelsea could demand a significant sum to sell him before a supposed deadline set for July 1. That should make them somewhat vulnerable. But so far, the player has shown the desire to stay at Stamford Bridge for the long term.
Will Chelsea sell Colwill?
There are two facets to look at before concluding on whether Chelsea will sell Colwill. They are already bent on offloading some of their other centre-backs, like Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah, with the latter meant to bring them considerable funds due to his homegrown status.
The other is, should they fail to sell some of their homegrown stars, then they might place all their eggs in the Colwill basket, as he is one player who guarantees a significant income from his sale. Conor Gallagher is another such star, as there are chances Chelsea might sell the duo if the price is right and the bid comes at the perfect time before the July 1 deadline.
