Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek could make a surprise return to his former club Ajax in the summer.
According to a report by Fichajes, Donny van de Beek has been linked with a sensational return to his former club Ajax. The 26-year-old midfielder’s future at Manchester United is uncertain and he is expected to look for a new club in the summer.
Donny van de Beek’s failed United move
Van de Beek came up the ranks at Ajax and made a name for himself while playing for the Dutch club. There was a lot of interest in him back in the day because of his exceptional performances and huge potential. Manchester United forked out €40 million to sign him from the Dutch club.
While he was expected to have a bright future at United, the move hasn’t worked out for both the parties. The Dutch international has never really got going at the Manchester-based club. After not getting any game time in the first half of the season at United, the 26-year-old ended up joining Eintracht Frankfurt on a short loan.
While the loan spell also includes a €11 million buy option, the German club have no intentions of triggering it. Van de Beek is all set to return to his parent club after the end of the season. But, he is not a part of the Red Devils’ plans moving ahead and with his contract running out in 2025, they will look to offload him in the summer.
Even the player is expected to push for a move elsewhere. The Dutch international is only 26 and he still has quite a few years left in him. Van de Beek can surely revive himself but he needs to have the best environment and sufficient game time to do so.
A return to Ajax for Donny van de Beek?
He has been linked with a return to Ajax, reports suggest the midfielder could consider returning to his childhood club. Van de Beek made a name for himself at the Dutch club and a return there could provide him an opportunity to revive his career.
Ajax are known to have the best possible environment for a player to develop himself and it could be an attractive option for the 26-year-old given the kind of situation he has been in since making the big-money move to United. While he has been linked with a return to his former club, it won’t be that straightforward as a possible deal with depend on negotiations between the two clubs.
