Arsenal are hoping to sign Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young central defenders in European football right now and a report from O Jogo via SportWitness claims that Arsenal are currently the main candidates to sign the defender.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are keen on signing the player as well, but Arsenal are expected to take steps to secure his services soon. The 20-year-old central defender has an €80 million release clause in his contract, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal are prepared to trigger it at the end of the season.

It would be a premium price to pay, but there is no doubt that the talented young defender has the potential to justify the investment in the coming seasons. He could develop into a key player for Arsenal with the right guidance.

The opportunity to move to Arsenal will be an attractive one for the young defender, and he will look to test himself at a higher level. He has already proven himself to be a reliable performer with Sporting CP and he will hope to win the league title with them this season.

Diomande could be tempted to try out a new challenge at this stage of his career and the move for the Premier League will be hard to turn down. Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world and they could help him compete for major trophies on a consistent basis.

Diomande would be a long-term addition

Arsenal need to bring in a quality, long-term partner for William Saliba and the Ivorian seems like the ideal acquisition.

It will be interesting to see if they can beat the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich to his services. All three clubs have the financial muscle to pay a premium for the young defender and it remains to be seen where he ends up.

Diomande needs to join a club where he will pay regularly, and he must seek gametime assurances before committing to a move this summer. Even if Arsenal have to pay a premium for him, he could justify the investment in the coming seasons. He has all the tools to develop into a top class central defender and he could be a key player for Arsenal in the years to come.
