Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of the 22-year-old Wigan Athletic shot-stopper Sam Tickle.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Liverpool are looking to reinforce the goalkeeping position in the upcoming summer transfer window, and they have their eyes on Sam Tickle. The 22-year-old Wigan Athletic shot-stopper has made quite a name for himself, and the Merseyside club are closely monitoring him ahead of a potential transfer.

Sam Tickle’s impressive rise at Wigan Athletic

Tickle joined the Wigan Athletic youth ranks back in 2012. He came up the ranks and was promoted to their first team last summer. The 22-year-old already has 52 appearances for their first team, and the majority of those have come in the ongoing season.

In his 44 league outings this term, the English youth international has kept 14 clean sheets. The youngster has established himself as a mainstay in their team and his impressive rise has put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.

Liverpool are one of the clubs that have been closely monitoring the Wigan Athletic youngster. They feel he could be a great signing for the long-term and with the future of Caoimhin Kelleher uncertain, there is a possibility that they could make a move for the 22-year-old when the window opens.

A potential replacement for Kelleher

Kelleher has been a part of the Liverpool ranks since 2019. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has delivered every time he has been asked to cover for Alisson Becker. The Brazilian shot-stopper has struggled with injuries in the ongoing season, and it has resulted in the Irish shot-stopper featuring in 26 matches this term.

The 25-year-old has the desire to be a number one, and that is unlikely to happen at the Merseyside club with Alisson in goal. As a result, he could look for a move elsewhere. There was interest in him during the winter and those clubs could return for his signatures in the summer.

If decides to leave, the Reds are unlikely to stand in his way. As a result, they are looking at potential replacement options. They are interested in Tickle’s services and have been scouting him in the recent past. He seems to be an exciting prospect for the future.

However, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to bet on a 22-year-old League One keeper to be their number 2 given the fact that he could be called into action on multiple occasions.
