According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Cardoso Varela is becoming a hot property in the market. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are among the clubs interested in signing the 15-year-old FC Porto sensation, with the trio submitting their offers for the young prospect.
Who is Cardoso Varela?
Cardoso Varela is the latest Portuguese wonderkid to rise in prominence in his homeland. The country has a rich history of producing world-class players in every generation, with the latest set witnessing the rise of Rafael Leao, Antonio Silva, and Joao Neves, among others. Many have emanated from the fabled FC Porto youth division.
A left-winger by trade, the 15-year-old can also play on the right flank and is known for his lethal pace and vision. Varela is already playing beyond his age group as he represents Portugal at the under-17 level while turning out for FC Porto’s under-17 side. So, it is hardly surprising that the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City.
High in Demand
Barcelona and Real Madrid regularly lock horns in the market for the most highly-rated prospects. These prodigies often hail from South America, with the two clubs recently vying for Endrick and Vitor Roque. Franco Mastantuono also features on both club’s radar, while Barcelona and Real Madrid were keen on Claudio Echeverri before Manchester City won the race.
Interestingly, Mastantuono is also a target for Manchester City, with the Premier League champions competing with Barcelona and Real Madrid for his signature. Cardoso Varela has now emerged as a target for all three European heavyweights.
The report has claimed that Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City have already made their offers for Varela, with the trio ready to train him in his final formative years before he graduates to the first-team squad. However, they are not alone in the race to sign the 15-year-old Portuguese sensation.
The report also mentions Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain as his suitors. So, with the competition for his signature being high, it will be interesting to see where he lands, with a move away from FC Porto likely.
