A host of Premier League sides are vying for Mario Hermoso’s signature. The defender is set to leave Atletico Madrid on a free transfer.

According to HITC, there’s a three-way battle from Premier League clubs for soon-to-be free La Liga winner Mario Hermoso. Atletico Madrid are set to lose the 28-year-old defender on a free transfer, with Newcastle unitred, Aston Villa and West Ham United among those interested.

Premier League interest in Mario Hermoso

Mario Hermoso has become an interesting transfer option for many clubs. The soon-to-be-free La Liga winner will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer. The 28-year-old packs immense experience at the top level in Spain and in the Champions League.

As soon as it was confirmed that Hermoso would leave Atletico, some of the top clubs across the continent became interested in the defender. Aston Villa have reporteldy held talks about a move, while Barcelona have no interest in pursuing the defender any more.

West Ham are also in the race, with David Moyes considering reshaping his defence and eyes the 28-year-old’s experience in his squad. Villa are also anticipating top tier European football next season, and will want a bigger squad depth next season, hence the idea of the soon-to-be free La Liga winner will have appealed to Unai Emery.

Finally, Newcastle United in the race, with the Magpies in desperate need of a new centre-back after losing Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles to serious knee injuries, that will keep those stars out for the longer term. Hence, the idea of reinforcing their defence with free agent Hermoso might fit their requirement and suit their pockets.

Hermoso with Italian interest

Fabrizio Romano recently pointed towards interest from Juventus but insisted there have been no talks about a move. Inter Milan are also keen, but the interest coming from the Premier League might have a telling effect on Hermoso’s decision-making.

The idea of Newcastle might appeal, but the likes of Aston Villa are more likely to offer him Champions League football as things stand. Siomilarly, West Ham could offer him some level of European competition, but there are doubts whether the London Stadium is as appealing as the other prospects.
