Manchester United have decided to stick with the defensive duo of Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez despite their injury concerns.

According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United are all set to undergo major changes in the defence in the upcoming transfer window. A few of their stars are expected to part ways with the club while they are expected to a few key additions. However, the new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS have decided to back Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez.

The duo’s future at the club has been the talk of the town in the recent past because of their persistent injury problems. While reports suggested they could part ways with both centre-backs, the club have made a decision regarding their future. They will not be negotiating their departure.

Lindelof and Martinez’s struggle with injuries

Lindelof has been a part of the Manchester United setup since 2017. While he did go down the pecking order at one point in time, the Swedish international worked his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans last season. He was expected to have an important role this term as well but injuries have limited him to just 27 appearances.

Meanwhile, Martinez was one of their marquee signings from the summer of 2022. He had an instant impact and became a mainstay. But, he has had a nightmare season this time out. The Argentine international has only featured in 11 matches because of major injuries.

With Lindelof’s contract running out in 2025, reports suggested that they could look to cash in on him in the upcoming window. While Martinez still has over three years left on his deal, he has struggled with quite a few injuries this term. As a result, even his future was a major doubt.

United to back Lindelof & Martinez

But, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS organisation have made a decision regarding their future. They are not looking to part ways with either of them. They consider the defensive duo an important part of their plans moving ahead and have decided to back them.

Lindelof and Martinez will continue at the Manchester-based club but they still have a few major changes at the back. The future of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane is uncertain. They could be offloaded in the upcoming window as the Red Devils are planning to a make few major defensive signings.
