Tottenham and Newcastle United are vying for Wilfried Ndidi in the summer. The midfielder is destined to leave Leicester City as a free agent.

According to HITC, Tottenham and Newcastle United are the teams vying to sign Leicester City midfielder on a free transfer. While the Foxes would ideally like to keep him, they are noutside theirontrol, as the 27-year-old FA Cup winner could have a choice of clubs to select from when the season ends.

Tottenham and Newcastle United in Wilfried Ndidi’s hunt

Whether Leicester City make it back to the Premier League or not, they are primed to lose some of their players, with Wilfried Ndidi leading that particular queue. The 27-year-old FA Cup winner with the Foxes will leave on a free transfer when his contract ends in the summer and could be joined by compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho in jumping clubs.

Ndidi is a particularly interesting name on the market, given that many Premier League teams are looking for a destroyer midfielder. His presence in Leicester City’s midfield over the years has been immense, with his role in the top flight and this season in the Championship.

Tottenham were keen ahead of January, but Leicester felt the need to keep him to give themselves the best chance to get out of the Championship the first time of asking. Spurs are still keen to add the 27-year-old FA Cup winner into their setup in the summer, as Ange Postecoglou might value the presence of such a midfielder with the level of experience in the league.

Newcastle United are also keen on Ndidi, with the Magpies expecting bids for some of their current midfielders, like Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, in the summer. Hence, they might need reinforcements, and in the age of FFP, they might view his Bosman move as a valuable commodity in the market and for their pockets.

Did Leicester City gamble with critical decisions?

Only a few years ago, many people praised Leicester City for their work in the transfer market. However, in the ensuing seasons, they have made some blunders that have come to cost them massive fees for essential players. For instance, they lost Youri Tielemans on a free transfer last summer, and now they are on the verge of losing two other established players such as Ndidi and Iheanacho.

They could have sold either in January or last summer to get a decent fee in return, although they took a big gamble on those stars helping them cope in the Championship. With their current position on the table, the gamble has worked out, but again, they will miss out on necessary money through their free moves.
