Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly open to a summer move to Newcastle United amid uncertainty over his future at the Emirates.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle United target Aaron Ramsdale is apparently “open-minded” about the prospect of joining the St. James’ Park outfit during the summer transfer window in 2024.

Ramsdale signed a new, improved contract running until the end of the 2025–26 season last May and thrived during his first two years at the Gunners after signing from relegated Sheffield United. He joined for £24 million plus add-ons and did not miss a minute of Premier League football last season.

However, his fortunes have taken a hit this season, and he is now scrambling to make the England squad for Euro 2024, despite looking like a lock at one point.

After starting their opening four Premier League matches this season, the Englishman has struggled for regular game time since the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford.

In fact, the 25-year-old has started just four games in six months and last featured in the 2-1 win over Brentford last month, a match for which Raya was ineligible.

Having impressed during his time in north London, Raya is expected to make his loan move permanent in the summer for £27 million.

That has led many to believe Ramsdale will leave, with Newcastle among those linked with a swoop for the former Bournemouth and Sheffield United goalkeeper, who is admired by the Magpies boss Eddie Howe.

The Magpies have rekindled their interest in Ramsdale ahead of a potential summer swoop and are keen on securing the 25-year-old to bolster the goalkeeping ranks at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have a very capable number one in Nick Pope. However, the 31-year-old Englishman is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, and that means Martin Dubravka is currently the man in between the sticks for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Slovakian international is 35 years of age and entering the twilight of his career. He has conceded goals at an alarming rate since replacing Pope in goal, meaning Howe and Newcastle’s transfer supremos are targeting a younger, ball-playing goalkeeper who can be in the setup for years to come.

Howe is an admirer of Ramsdale, having been his manager at Bournemouth before suffering relegation with the Cherries. And the fact that Ramsdale is open-minded about the prospect of joining a fellow Premier League rival in Newcastle could push this one into the forefront when the summer window rolls around.
