Arsenal have reportedly been linked with a surprise move for former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

David de Gea remains a free agent for now, and Arsenal will be hoping to snap him up on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. A report from Fichajes has claimed that the Gunners are looking at a number of goalkeepers as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale has been linked with a move away from Arsenal owing to a lack of game time, and the Gunners will have to replace him adequately. The 25-year-old is certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, and replacing him will not be easy.

Anyone replacing the 25-year-old will also have to accept the role of a squad player. It will be interesting to see if David De Gea is willing to accept that role. But other candidates, including Michele Di Gregorio, also feature on Arsenal’s radar.

Will David de Gea accept the role of a squad player?

The 33-year-old was one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his time at Manchester United, and he helped them win multiple trophies. The Spaniard has the experience on the quality to start for top teams and he might not want to sit on the bench at Arsenal. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

David Raya is currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, and the former Manchester United goalkeeper will have to complete with him for the starting spot. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has played over 500 games for Manchester United in all competitions. And there is no doubt that David de Gea has the experience and the quality to play for arsenal.

Signing a player of his ability on a free transfer would represent an excellent bargain for the North London club. But it remains to be seen whether they can finalise an agreement quickly with the Manchester United icon.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale needs to join a club where he will start every week and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. He has proven himself in the Premier League with Arsenal and there is unlikely to be any shortage of clubs looking to sign him.
