Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are keen on Middlesbrough’s Seny Dieng ahead of the summer as the duo search for a backup keeper.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are keen on a new backup goalkeeper and have set sights on Middlesbrough’s Seny Dieng. The 29-year-old African goalkeeper could make the switch to the Premier League, with the Championship side likely to demand around £4-5 million for the Senegal international.

Crystal Palace, Newcastle United vying for Seny Dieng?

Seny Dieng has made a mark with Middlesbrough after a season of exceptional goalkeeping. He has also come into the reckoning of fighting for the No.1 jersey with former Chelsea star Edouard Mendy for the national side of Senegal.

However, in terms of his club career, there is a big move awaiting the 29-year-old African goalkeeper, with a host of Premier League sides chasing his signature. Middlesbrough, who signed him for £2 million last summer, will look to double that, meaning he could become available for around £4-5 million in the next window.

Crystal Palace are about to lose one of Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson to another club, meaning they need a new backup keeper at the club. Newcastle United are in a similar position as they will lose Loris Karius as a free agent, while Martin Dubravka might depart after underwhelming seasons.

Seny Dieng could become a solid option for either Premier League side, as the 29-year-old African goalkeeper could challenge their current primary goalkeepers for a starting place. These sides need such competition for places as they seek a bargain option from the Championship.

Dieng has other options next summer

Apart from Crystal Palace and Newcastle, the 29-year-old African goalkeeper may have more options on the table to leave Middlesbrough in the summer. While he could compete for a spot in the lineup at all those sides, the Senegalese international may evaluate his options based on the chances of swiftly becoming a No.1 somewhere.

Ipswich Town, who are one of the favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League, is looking at Dieng as a potential option. Sevilla are also keen on the 29-year-old African goalkeeper, with former Leeds United director Victor Orta leading the chase for the Senegalese international.
