Ivan Toney could be available for £60 million amid Chelsea, Manchester United links

Chelsea and Manchester United could sign 28-year-old Brentford star forward Ivan Toney for £60 million in the upcoming transfer window.

According to Dharmesh Sheth via Give Me Sport, Chelsea and Manchester United are both keen on having Ivan Toney in their ranks. The 28-year-old is expected to be on the move in the upcoming transfer window. While Brentford want a massive fee for him, he could be available for around £60 million because of his contract situation.

Toney joined the Bees back in the summer of 2020 and has gone from strength to strength since then. He was on fire last season before being handed an eight-month-long ban because of illegal betting.

The English international made a return to action in January and has since featured in 11 Premier League games and has contributed towards five goals. Toney has proven himself in the English top flight, and his performances have put him on the radar of some of the top clubs in the country.

Chelsea and Manchester United keen on Ivan Toney

Chelsea and Manchester United are two clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Blues struggled in front of the goal at the start of the season. While things have improved, it still has not been good enough. They want to bring in a world-class striker who can guarantee goals and the Brentford ace, who currently pockets £20,000-a-week wages, is on their wishlist.

While Manchester United did pay big bucks to sign Rasmus Hojlund last summer, they are still in search of another top striker. The Danish international has started to get in his groove, but they need someone who can support him. The Red Devils are looking for a proven goalscorer, and Toney surely has an impressive track record.

Brentford could be forced to lower the asking price

Brentford are aware of the interest in his services and are looking to cash in on him. The Bees will look for a fee of around £100 million for their 28-year-old star. But, Sheth feels they might not get that big a fee for the England international.

Toney’s £20,000-a-week contract with the club runs out in the summer of 2025. With just over a year left on his deal, interested clubs are aware of the fact that he is unlikely to sign a new deal with Brentford. With the English international entering the final year of his contract, they will look to use it to bring down the asking price.

Since there is a possibility of the Englishman leaving for free in a year, the Bees could agree to a fee of around £60 million according to the transfer expert. It could be a win-win situation for all parties involved. Brentford will have enough funds to reinforce their squad while one of the English giants will get a proven goalscorer.
