Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Bradley Locko as Brest could consider a sale should they make it into Europe.
According to Jonathan Johnson on Caught Offside, Chelsea may have the chance to sign Bradley Locko in the summer if Brest makes it to Europe. The Ligue 1 side might consider a sale to boost their transfer funds as they might need new players to strengthen their squad.
Chelsea receives Bradley Locko boost
Chelsea is reportedly looking for a new left-back ahead of the new window, with the futures of Ian Maatsen and Marc Cucurella coming under massive doubt. The drop could leave Stamford Bridge as the club looks to cut their losses on the latter and make some profit on the former. They already have a few names on their list, including Rayan Ait-Nouri and Bradley Locko, which Fabrizio Romano recently denied.
In any case, there are persistent rumours linking at least the latter to Chelsea, which could eventually turn out to be true. PSG are also interested in Locko, as they could lock horns for one of the best left-backs in France this season and will want to take him.
Chelsea and PSG could have a compelling battle on their hands, although the Blues could potentially offer him an entry into Enf]gland and play in the Premier League. In any case, Jonathan Johnson insists that Chelsea may have an advantage in the chase for the 21-year-old Ligue 1 ace.
The Blues could offer the left-back a place in their evolving project consisting of many young stars, as well as the chance to establish himself as their preferred player in that position. Now, Johnson has revealed they may have a boost in the pursuit as there’s a chance Brest could sell.
Johnson said, “Bradley Locko is having a very good season at Brest, and there’s been some talk of Chelsea being interested in the 21-year-old left-back. Brest, in general, has been one of the surprise packages of Ligue 1. They’re having an incredible campaign, and hopefully, they can maintain that momentum until the end of the season.
“If Brest get European football next season then Locko can gain that experience there, but there might be an argument that it’s a good time for Brest to sell this summer so they can bring in some money and strengthen in multiple positions ahead of the challenge of playing in Europe, then they can be handsomely rewarded for the fantastic work they’ve done with him this season.”
Why would Brest sell Bradley Locko?
Brest have had an outstanding season so far, as they are currently second in Ligue 1 standings behind leaders PSG. While there are no guarantees they will finish there, considering how closely contested the fight has been for Champions League places, they still are in with a massive chance to do so.
Should Brest finish in the top four, they will have to strengthen their squad for the Champions League next season, meaning new players would be needed. Hence, selling stars like Locko would make sense for them to bring in funds and use that to sign new players in multiple positions.
