West Ham United are keen on acquiring the services of the 22-year-old Arsenal midfield target Amadou Onana.

According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United want to reinforce their midfield ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Amadou Onana. The 22-year-old has been doing wonders for Everton and his performances have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Onana’s time at Everton

Onana joined the Merseyside club in the summer of 2022. They forked out just over £33 million to sign the 22-year-old defensive midfielder. The move has done wonders for them as the Belgian has been a standout performer.

He is already a mainstay in their team and has featured in 29 matches this term. Onana has started in 25 of those outings and even has four goal contributions. He has made quite a name for himself and top clubs from across Europe are gearing up to push for his signatures.

West Ham keen on signing Amadou Onana

West Ham United are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Hammers wanted to sign the 22-year-old before he joined Everton. They were favourites to land him at their club but unfortunately, the move collapsed.

With the Merseyside club now in all sorts of financial trouble, West Ham are looking to make the best use of the situation and sign the Belgian international. They wanted to reinforce their midfield at the halfway mark of the season and ended up signing Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City.

He hasn’t had the best of starts and they are unlikely to push for a permanent move. But, they do need a new defensive midfield and Onana is a priority target for them.

Everton have two breaches of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations which means they will have to sanction a few major departures. The 22-year-old is one of their most prized possession and his departure will surely help them balance the books.

West Ham are aware of Everton’s situation and want to make the best use of it. But, with Arsenal also linked with the Belgian international, it won’t be easy for the Hammers. Jorginho isn’t getting any younger and the future of Thomas Partey is uncertain. As a result, Onana could be an ideal signing for Mikel Arteta’s team.
