Everton and Aston Villa have both enquired about the availability of the 20-year-old Barcelona midfield sensation Fermin Lopez.
According to a report by SPORT, Everton and Aston Villa are both huge admirers of Fermin Lopez. The 20-year-old La Masia product has attracted a lot of attention on the back of his impressive rise. The two English clubs would love to have the Barcelona sensation in their ranks and have enquired about him.
Who is Fermin Lopez?
Lopez joined La Masia back in the summer of 2016 from the Real Betis youth system. He has since gone up the ranks. The 20-year-old midfielder got promoted to the Barcelona first team ahead of the ongoing season and has not looked back since getting his big break.
He was expected to get a few minutes every now and then in the ongoing season. However, injuries to Gavi and Pedri have given him an extended run in the first team. He has featured in 31 matches and has racked up just over 1,300 minutes.
Fermin Lopez has seven goal contributions in his very first season with the Catalan giants’ senior team. He has made full use of the opportunities that Xavi has handed him. While his contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2027, and while there is a €400 million release clause, clubs are still interested in having the 20-year-old in their ranks.
Barcelona already have Pedri and Gavi in their ranks. When the Spanish duo are fully fit, they will be preferred choices in the centre of the park. With a lot of competition for places in Barcelona, clubs are looking to lure him away by offering him an opportunity to be a guaranteed starter.
Premier League Calling?
Everton and Aston Villa are two clubs keen on having him in their ranks. Both clubs have reached out to Barcelona to enquire about the availability of Lopez in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Toffees did make a move back in the winter as well. The Merseyside club have Amadou Onana in their ranks, and the defensive midfielder is quite high on Barcelona’s wishlist. So, Everton could use him for a potential deal.
As far as Villa are concerned, they want to raise the level of their midfield by adding the 20-year-old to their squad. Unai Emery is looking to take his team to the next level, and a player with Lopez’s abilities and potential could be a great signing. However, the La Masia product is unlikely to push for a move away from the club. He is loving life in Barcelona and wants to be a part of their first team for years to come.
