Genoa’s €30 million-rated attacker Albert Gudmundsson reportedly wants to stay in Serie A amid interest from Tottenham.
According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Albert Gudmundsson is the subject of interest from Tottenham. But the North London club will have to look elsewhere for an offensive reinforcement, with the 26-year-old Genoa attacker keen on remaining in Serie A in the summer transfer window.
The Rise of Albert Gudmundsson at Genoa
Albert Gudmundsson has established himself as one of the most underrated attackers in Serie A this season. A native of Reykjavik, the Icelandic international spent his formative years in his homeland. But he rose in prominence in the Netherlands, spending three years with PSV Eindhoven before enjoying a solid stint with AZ Alkmaar.
Genoa signed him in January 2022, and the 26-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last two years. But the 2023/24 campaign has seen him at his best, with the attacker contributing to 16 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions. Gudmundsson has found the back of the net 12 times while providing four assists.
The former PSV and AZ Alkmaar forward’s progress at Genoa has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing Gudmundsson, with Tottenham reportedly among the front-runners queuing up for his signature.
Tottenham Interested
Tottenham’s interest in Albert Gudmundsson is understandable. The North London giants have thrived under Ange Postecoglou, who prefers versatile players capable of reprising different roles on the pitch. So, Son Heung-min, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski have been among his best assets this term.
Gudmundsson has thus emerged as a viable target, considering the 26-year-old can play across the frontline, except as a striker. His price tag of around €30 million is not an issue for the North London club either. But a summer move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium might not be on the cards, as the Icelandic international wants to remain in Serie A.
With Juventus also in the race to sign Gudmundsson, the Bianconeri might become one of the favourites to secure his signature. As for Tottenham, the North London club must look elsewhere for a versatile attacker this summer.
