Christian Eriksen is set to hold talks with Erik ten Hag and Manchester United over his future, as he could also leave the club.

As per Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Christian Eriksen could hold crunch talks with Manchester United. The experienced midfielder has fallen in the pecking order at the club this season, especially since the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.

Christian Eriksen to hold future talks

Christian Eriksen was seen as an intelligent signing last season as he showcased his ability to recover from a severe heart condition suffered at the Euros in 2021. He was a key starter during Erik ten Hag’s first season. But things have gone on a downward spiral since the beginning of the current campaign.

The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo has rendered Eriksen as their fourth-choice midfielder. Sofyan Amrabat’s presence has also been a significant factor in the Danish international’s lack of game time, although there is still a chance to feature prominently in the remainder of the season.

The experienced midfielder also suffered a knee injury between November and December, which led Manchester United to consider a sale in January if a suitable offer arrived. However, Ten Hag wanted to keep him for the experience he brings, although the curtains may fall on his Old Trafford career when the summer window opens.

Eriksen is keen to resolve his future and understand his role in the side, as the Dane will hold crunch talks with ten Hag to see what the future holds. Ben Jacobs insists the discussions are imminent between the pair, as Manchester United might eye massive changes to their midfield and probably even build the future around Mainoo.

Jacobs said, “Before we can understand the situation with Christian Eriksen, off the back of his interview, I think what will happen is something internal at Manchester United. I think Eriksen will talk face-to-face with Erik ten Hag, and they will be very upfront about things.”

“After that meeting, I think that Eriksen will have a clear indication of his future. It will be the same for Sofyan Amrabat as well. I don’t think there will be a high volume of suitors within the Premier League for Eriksen.”

Manchester United’s midfield revamp

Manchester United have been planning on revamping their midfield in the summer, with INEOS not particularly happy with the current setup. For instance, Casemiro might depart from Old Trafford, with rumours of a potential Saudi move interest gaining momentum.

Then there are players like Amrabat, Eriksen and Scott McTominay who may leave, with the former only there on loan. Hence, bringing a new partner to Mainoo might become a priority for Manchester United as they look to begin a new era.
